I have to admit, this book surprised me. For the first quarter of the book it felt flat, stereotypical. Even the names were stereotypical romance hero names (especially Kane) and in general I wasn't impressed. But somewhere in the second quarter of the book the author found his or her voice and took off, and the characters fell in sync, becoming a pair that I could truly believe in with as enthralling mystery. The cliff-hanger at the end was just evil, pure evil, and as an evil person myself I can appreciate it, provided the author doesn't wait too long to get the sequel out. (and if they do, wellll I have an entire drawer full of metal spoons that can be heated over butane crucible... so don't wait too long, dear author) This is definitely an author to watch in the future.
